Gwobr Arian Cymraeg Campus Silver Award

The Criw Cymraeg and the whole school community of Ysgol Gynradd Pontsenni, which is a dual stream Welsh and English Medium School at Sennybridge have celebrated achieving the Cymraeg Campus Silver Award.

Ysgol Pontsenni received formal recognition for their efforts in promoting the Welsh language as a living, vibrant language shared by pupils, staff, governors, families and the wider community.

The very active members of the Criw Cymraeg have organised and coordinated numerous Welsh events and activities and encouraged pupils, parents, friends of the school and wider community to enjoy using Welsh in a natural and meaningful way.

The recent Estyn Inspection report noted,

‘A strong Welsh ethos is an integral part of the school, with most pupils developing increasing confidence in their ability to speak Welsh in both streams.

‘Alongside the school’s Welsh ethos, pupils across the school develop to become speakers who are proud of their ability to speak Welsh.’

Criw Cymraeg Ysgol Pontsenni

Fe hoffem ni gyflwyno y Criw Cymraeg yn Ysgol Pontsenni. Rôl y ‘Criw Cymraeg’ yw annog defnydd cymdeithasol plant o’r Gymraeg yn ein hysgol, ar y buarth ac yn y gymuned.

We would like to introduce the ‘Criw Cymraeg at Ysgol Pontsenni. The role of the ‘Criw Cymraeg’ is to encourage children’s social use of Welsh at our school, on the playground and in the community

Yn Ysgol G.G. Pontsenni ein rôl fel aelodau or Criw Cymraeg yw:

1. Hyrwyddo’r defnydd o’r Gymraeg yn yr ysgol

2. Sicrhau bod cymuned yr ysgol gyfan sy'n cynnwys disgyblion, staff, rhieni, ymwelwyr a'r gymuned leol yn deall bod y Gymraeg yn rhan bwysig o'n diwylliant.

3. Sicrhau bod disgyblion yn mwynhau dysgu a siarad Cymraeg trwy weithgareddau/sesiynau dyddiol Helpwr Heddiw a gwersi Cymraeg wythnosol a gwersi trawsgwricwlaidd.

4. Annog cymuned yr ysgol gyfan a'r gymuned ehangach i gyfathrebu yn Gymraeg.

5. Annog y defnydd o'r Gymraeg ar furluniau ysgol, posteri, arwyddion, cylchlythyrau, gwefan yr ysgol, mewn gwasanaethau ysgol, cyngherddau ysgol a digwyddiadau ysgol gyfan.

6. Cefnogi a sicrhau bod disgyblion a chymuned yr ysgol gyfan yn teimlo'n hapus a hyderus i roi cynnig ar siarad Cymraeg wrth sgwrsio ag eraill.

At Ysgol G.G. Pontsenni our role as members of Criw Cymraeg is to:

  1. Promote the Welsh ethos of the school
  2. Ensure that the whole school community which includes, pupils, staff, parents, visitors and the local community understand that the Welsh language is an important part of our culture.
  3. Ensure that pupils enjoy learning and speaking Welsh through daily Helpwr Heddiw activities/sessions and weekly Welsh lessons and cross curricular lessons.
  4. Encourage the whole school community and wider community to communicate in Welsh.
  5. Encourage the use of Welsh on school wall displays, posters, signs, newsletters, school website, school assemblies, school concerts and whole school events.

Mae’r Siarter Iaith, prosiect i annog y defnydd o’r Gymraeg yn gymdeithasol mewn ysgolion cynradd Cymru, wedi croesawu dau gymeriad newydd. Bydd y ddau arwr ar bosteri a bathodynnau yn annog plant a phobl ifanc i ddefnyddio’r Gymraeg ar y buarth, gartref ac yn y dosbarth.

Fel rhan o’r Siarter, mae pob ysgol unigol yn cwblhau y gwaelodlin i bennu defnydd iaith cyn datblygu cynllun gweithredu i weithio tuag at wobr efydd, arian neu aur. Mae’n annog cyfraniad gan bob aelod o gymuned yr ysgol – disgyblion, rhieni, llywodraethwyr yr ysgol a’r gymuned ehangach.

Mae cyfathrebu wrth galon bywyd modern – mae tyfu i fyny yn ddwyieithog yn golygu y bydd ein plant a phobl ifanc yn datblygu sgiliau bywyd.

Mae gan Seren a Sbarc, y ddau fasgot y Siarter Iaith, gân arbennig y gallwch chi ei chanu gyda’r fideo canlynol. Mae'r gân hefyd ar gael ar Spotify. Diolch i Casia Wiliam, Bardd Plant Cymru, am y geiriau ac i Osian Williams am y gerddoriaeth.

The Welsh Language Charter, a project to encourage the use of Welsh socially in primary schools in Wales, has welcomed two new characters. The two heroes on posters and badges will encourage our children and young people to use the Welsh language in the playground, at home and the classroom.

As part of the Charter, each individual school completes a baseline exercise to determine current language use before developing an action plan to work towards a bronze, silver or gold award. It encourages participation from every member of the school community – pupils, parents, school governors and the wider community.

Communication is at the heart of modern life – growing up bilingual means that children will be developing skills for life.

The Siarter Iaith mascots, Seren and Sbarc, have a special song, which you can sing along to with the following video. The song is also available on Spotify. Thankyou to Casia Wiliam, Children’s Poet Laureate for Wales, for the lyrics and to Osian Williams for the music.
