Before we can read and write, a strong understanding of letters and sounds is needed.
Phonics is a way of teaching children how to read and write. It helps children hear, identify and use different sounds that distinguish one word from another.
Written language can be compared to a code, so knowing the sounds of individual letters and how those letters sound when they’re combined will help children decode words as they read.
Understanding phonics will also help children know which letters to use when they are writing words.
For those parents who choose Welsh medium education, it can be especially daunting when Welsh is not the home language. To try and help, below are some phonic videos that support phonological development in the sequence we follow in school.
Tric a Chlic is built on three stages. Cam 1, Cam 2 and Cam 3. It is important to remember that each stage needs to be secure before progressing.
